The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has released its 2025 Community Health Assessment (CHA), offering a comprehensive overview of the city’s health landscape. This assessment, informed by data and input from over 3,400 residents, identifies five priority health issues: chronic disease, maternal and child health, mental health, substance use, and violence and injury.
Injury and violence have emerged as leading causes of premature death and disability in Milwaukee. The CHA also highlights disparities in education, housing, infant mortality rates, and life expectancy, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To address these challenges, MHD is developing the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) through the MKE Elevate initiative. This plan focuses on creating safe, healthy, and equitable neighborhoods by targeting the identified priority areas.
Community involvement is crucial in this endeavor. Residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming listening sessions and provide feedback to ensure the plan reflects the community’s needs and aspirations.
